Last Time Out
Newman hosted Jamestown last Monday to wrap up non-conference play. The Jets then started conference play 1-0 last week after taking on Northeastern State on Saturday. Against Jamestown, The Jets took to the score sheet first, with a goal in the 20th minute by
Cameron Schroder.
Eduardo Dos Santos and
Daiki Okada were both credited with assists on the goal. This goal by Schroder was his first of the season. The next score came from
Gabriel Dias Juliani, who was assisted by
Bilal Olayiwola and
Gustavo Dias Juliani to give Newman the 2-0 lead in the 27th minute. To end the half,
Tomas Melon was found by Schroder and
Kei Nagakura to net the Jets third goal. At halftime, the Jets had the lead at 3-0. The next half of play was scoreless until
Gio Orozco found the back of the net, unassisted in the 80th minute. The Jimmies would catch a break with a Jets own goal to put the score at 4-1. Newman would close out the game with the 4-1 win.
Against the Riverhawks,
Eduardo Dos Santos connected with the back of the net to take the 1-0 lead that allowed the Jets to head into halftime with the lead. Out of the halftime break, the Jets' offense rolled to an early goal with
Gabriel Dias Juliani connecting.
Gustavo Dias Juliani was credited with the assist on the Jets second goal. This goal gave Newman the 2-0 lead with 40 minutes to play. NSU cut into the Jets' lead in the 58th minute to make it 2-1. Later, Dias Juliani netted his second goal to secure a brace on the day and give Newman a 3-1 lead. Minutes later, the Riverhawks connected for their second goal to make it 3-2 in the 69th minute.
Kei Nagakura pushed the Jets to a 4-2 lead in the 77th minute with his first goal of the game, assisted by both Dias Juliani brothers. The Jets closed out the remainder of the half, with Newman taking the contest 4-2.
Scouting the Jets
After
Gabriel Dias Juliani's performance this week, he was named Great American Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season. Juliani led all GAC players in points during week four, recording seven total. In Newman's 4-1 win over Jamestown to close out non-conference play, Juliani netted one goal for two points. In the Jets conference opener against Northeastern State, Juliani netted two goals for his first brace of the season. He would also add one assist in the 4-2 win over the Riverhawks, contributing to three of the Jets four goals. Through four weeks of play, Juliani leads the GAC in goals (6), game-winning goals (3), and tops the conference in total points (14). He also sits fourth in shots on goal with seven and fifth in total shots with 17.
Gustavo Dias Juliani leads the Jets in assists with six, who is followed by Dos Santos and Okada with five apiece. Dos Santos and Okada are second on the Jets team with total points, each with seven. On the defensive end,
Francisco Pinochet leads with six games played, 23 saves, with three wins. The Jets currently sit in second in the GAC in points (59), goals (18), assists (23), and in saves (32).
Behind Enemy Lines
The Jets will hit the road to first face Southern Nazarene. The Crimson Storm have posted a 4-2-1 overall record. To start conference play, SNU went 2-0 on the week. The Storm first faced Ouachita Baptist where they posted a 4-0 clean sheet against the Tigers. Kaden Slaven led the SNU offense in the game with two goals. The Storm then battled out their second conference game of the week against Harding. SNU took the contest 3-2 where Tiago Moreira scored two goals for the Storm. Moreira leads goal scorers for SNU with three. Lucas Beja leads with two assists on the year.
Newman will face a tough road test against the No. 8 ranked Rogers State Hillcats. The Hillcats have posted a 6-0-2 overall record with a 2-0 record in conference. The Hillcats sailed through the week of play, scoring seven total goals and giving up zero. Against Harding, the Hillcats took the contest with ease at 5-0. Brandon O'Rourke led the team with two goals. Then, against Ouachita Baptist the Hillcats took the win 2-0. O'Rourke, Noah Preston-Watkins, and Grayson Horsley lead the team with two goals apiece. Louis Basset leads the team with three assists.
The Series
The Jets have a 7-8 record against Southern Nazarene. The last contest was November 14th of last year in GAC/MIAA postseason play. The Crimson Storm took the semifinal game, 3-2. The Jets last beat Southern Nazarene in November of 2024, 5-3.
Against the Hillcats, the Jets have a 5-14 record. The last contest was in October of last year, where the Hillcats took the game 5-2. The Jets last won against the Hillcats in 2019.

The Jets will return home next week to host Ouachita Baptist on October 9th at 7 PM and then host Harding on October 11th at 1 PM.
