Jets Softball set for Home Conference Opener

Last Time Out  

The Jets hosted Southwestern Oklahoma State for a mid-week doubleheader matchup. The Jets fell short in both games against the Bulldogs. In game one, SWOSU would strike first, taking an early 1-0 lead. The Jets would reply in the bottom half of the inning with a run of their own. In the bottom of the second, the Jets would take the lead off the back of a solo home run by Malie Noda. Later, a three RBI double by Emma Taylor would extend the Jets' lead out to 5-1. IN the top of the third, SWOSU would score three runs off of three hits to pull the score within one run. The Bulldogs would go on to tie the game in the top of the fifth, later taking the lead off the back of a three-run home run. The Jets would fight back to score two runs, resulting in a final score of 8-6, in favor of the Bulldogs. 

In game two, Southwestern Oklahoma State would take an early lead, scoring one run in the top of the first. Then adding a second run in the top of the second. The Jets would plate a run in the bottom of the second off a bases-loaded walk by Kaila Kaahu. SWOSU would extend their lead to 5-1 in the top of the third, off a three-run triple. A double play by the Jets would help keep the Bulldogs scoreless in the fourth, and MaKenna Majors would keep the Bulldogs scoreless in the fifth. Kaahu would deliver in the top of the fifth plating two more runs for the Jets, taking the score to 5-4. SWOSU would score eight unanswered runs across the sixth and seventh innings to take the game 13-4 

 
Scouting the Jets  
Noda leads the team, with a batting average of .361, slugging percentage of .590, 22 hits, and 11 RBI's. Lauren McNaught adds to their offense with a batting average of .315, recording 17 hits. With a batting average of .310, Lani Dryden leads the team with 10 walks. Katelyn Westover leads the Jets from the circle with 11 strikeouts and a 5.92 ERA across 39 innings of work. 

 
Behind Enemy Lines  
Central Missouri is coming off a split of their home conference opener against Fort Hays State. Kyrsten Moran leads the Jennies offense with a batting average of .385, recording 30 hits, including two doubles and one triple. Lexi Blackmon has recorded a batting average of .377. Taylor Thompson leads the team in RBI's with 22, and home runs with 7. In the circle, the Jennies are led by Riley Bebb, with an ERA of 2.35 and 28 strikeouts across 44.2 innings of work. 

Emporia State is coming off a split against a non-conference opponent, Drury. The Hornets are led by the bat of Brooke Flewelling, with a batting average of 3.72, a slugging percentage of .814, 21 runs scored, 32 hits, 26 RBI's, 4 doubles, 2 triples, and 10 home runs. Taryn Burkhardt leads the Hornets on the base paths with 20 stolen bases. The Hornets are led in the circle by Hannah Butterbaugh, with an ERA of 1.18 and 41 strikeouts across 71 innings of work.  
 
The Series  
-The Jets have a 0-11 record against the Jennies. Their last match-up going to the Jennies 2-9 in April of 2025.  

-The Jets have a 5-22 record against the Hornets. Their last match-up went to the Hornets 4-5 in April of 2025. Newman recorded their last win against ESU 7-4 at home on 3/9/2024. 
 
Next Up 
Jets Softball will travel to Bethany, Oklahoma, for a mid-week non-conference match-up against Southern Nazarene on Tuesday. Followed by road conference double headers on Friday and Saturday against Northeastern State and Rogers State.
