John Bailey was a Michigan all-state athlete in high school and played basketball for Kansas Newman from 1983-85, averaging 21.2 points per game and 8.5 rebounds. He was twice named NAIA All-American and is the second leading scorer in school history with 1,149 points. In the summer of 1985, John played for the Southern California Pro Summer league and was selected the most valuable player averaging 37.1 points per game. That fall, he was invited to participate with the Atlanta Hawks and then traveled to play overseas in Argentina, Brazil, Switzerland, Mexico, and Venezuela, In 1997, John started his own company, Bailey Telecommunications, LLC located in Detroit, Michigan. He and his wife, Cristina Ameila, are parents of three children, John Jr. and Christopher (both at Eastern Michigan University) and daughter, Florence.  Â
