SAN ANTONIO, Texas -
Amanda Knabe's fourth goal of the season wasn't enough to lift the Jets past Incarnate Word, falling 2-1 to the Cardinals Friday evening at Benson Stadium in San Antonio, Texas.
After battling through a scoreless opening half, the Cardinals needed just 21 seconds to net their first goal of the game, and added another goal nearly 12 minutes later to take a 2-0 lead with 33 minutes left to play.
Knabe countered two minutes later when she took a pass from
Ashley Ramos on a breakaway on the counter, and slipped the ball past UIW keeper Tori Puentes for Newman's only goal of the match.
Neither team scored for the remainder of the match, and the Cardinals held on for the 2-1 win.
Incarnate Word out-shot the Jets, 18-6, in the match, and peppered NU keeper
Christina Farid for 11 shots on goal. Neman put just two of their six shots on goal.
With the loss, the Jets fall to 2-4-2. They are back in action Sunday when they travel to south to Laredo to take on the Texas A&M International Dustdevils in a 1 p.m. match.
