Scouting the Opponents

-Quincy Hawks (1-2): The Hawks picked up and impressive season-opening win over #14 California (Pa.) last weekend, but have since dropped two straight matches; falling 3-1 to West Virginia State and getting shutout by Northwood  at the Ferris State tournament in Big Rapids, Mich. Offensively, Quincy is led by Christine Williams, who has recorded 34 kills in QU's first three matches. Lindsay Kool is Quincy's primary defensive specialist, leading the team with 23 digs early in the season. Head Coach Keith Rubio is in his sixth season at Quincy.

-Northwest Missouri State Bearcats (3-1): The Bearcats emerged from last weekend's Christian Brothers Tournament in Memphis, Tenn., with a 3-1 record, falling only to the hosts in a 3-2 decision. During their stay in Memphis, NWMSU notched wins against Ouachita Baptist, Illinois-Springfield and Missouri-St. Louis. Alex Hanna leads the Bearcats with 38 kills, but five other players have 33 or more kills so far this season. Paige Spangenberg is NWMSU's go to gal on the defensive side, recording 89 digs through the team's first four matches. Bearcats head coach Anna Tool is in her fourth season with the team.

-Texas A&M Commerce Lions (2-1): The Lions put forth an impressive performance in last week's Angelo Retina ASU Invitational in San Angelo Texas. TAMC swept Southern Arkansas and New Mexico Highlands, but suffered a 3-1 setback to St. Edward's in ther second match of the tournament. Lions head coach Mark Pryor is in his first season with the team.

-Minnesota State-Moorhead Dragons (3-2): The Dragons opened their season with a 3-2 outing at the Oredigger Classic in Golden, Colo. MSUM picked up sweeps over Western State, Fort Lewis and Adam's State, but was swept by Mesa State, and dropped a 3-2 decision to Colorado School of Mines. Heidi Lensing leads the Dragons with 53 kills so far this season while Katy Ness has added 44 digs to lead the team. Veteran head coach Tammy Blake-Kath is in her 15th season as MSUM's head coach and now owns an overall record of 253-192.
