Late Goal Lifts No. 22 MSU Past Jets, 1-0

Box Score WICHITA FALLS, Texas - For the first time this month, the Newman men's soccer team was able to complete a game in 90 minutes, but the result was not an enjoyable one. An 85th-minute goal by No. 22 Midwestern State handed the Jets a 1-0 loss Sunday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Field in Wichita Falls, Texas.

-Midwestern State broke a scoreless tie in the 85th minute when David Freeland played a through ball from Chris Dwyer, and sent it past Newman keeper Jason Dewey to give the hosting Mustangs the 1-0 advantage they went on to win by.

-Dewey recorded 10 saves in the match, and fell to 2-6 on the season.

-Newman was out-shot 28-11 in the contest. Midwestern State put 11 shots on goal, while five of the Jets' 11 shots ended up on target.

-The Mustangs were awarded nine corner kick opportunities in the contest, six of which came in the second half.

-Four yellow cards were issued in the contest. Cautions were issued to Newman's Brandon Carlos and Walisson Gomes, while Kelly Gill and Ryan Spence were booked for MSU.

-Each team played 18 players in the contest. Freshman keeper Steven Hamersky made his first appearance of the season for the Jets, playing the final two minutes in relief of Dewey.

With the loss, the Jets fall to 3-9-1 on the season. They will hit the road once again, traveling to Austin, Texas to take on Heartland Conference foe St. Edward's Friday afternoon in a 4 p.m. contest.
