WARRENSBURG, Mo. - Tyler Hasenbank and Mitch Arnold finished best among the Newman wrestling team with fifth and sixth place finishes in the University of Central Missouri Open Sunday in Warensburg, Mo. Both wrestlers advanced to the semifinal championship rounds before losses sent them to the wrestleback brackets.

Arnold finished the tournament with a 3-3 record and a sixth place finish in the 149 lb. weight class. After opening the event with a 3-1 decision over Dylan King (unattached) Arnold went on to rack up wins against Oklahoma's Dillon Dennis (D;3-2) and Missouri's Kellen Bounous (F;2:00) to advance to the semifinal championship round. In the semifinal, Arnold fell to Oklahoma State's Jamal Parks by major decision, 10-2, and dropped to the wrestleback bracket where he faced OU's Chase Gordon for a chance at third place. Arnold dropped his match against Gordon by decison, 3-2 and moved to the fifth-place match and a bout against MU's Trevor Weist. Weist beat Arnold by decision, 3-2, leaving Newman with a sixth-place finish in the class.

Hasenbank opened his tournament with a victory over the Missouri Valley's Josh Manu, (F;2:33) and a major decision over Ouachita Baptist's Dallas Smith, 19-10. In his next match Hasenbank faced McKendree's Kyle Reid with a championship bid on the line. Hasenbank lost by decision, 7-3, and fell to the wrestleback rounds and a shot at third-place. Hasenbank lost his first wrestleback match by decision, 6-2, to MU's Johnny Eblen but redeemed himself in the fifth-place bout, claiming victory over MU's Clarence Neely (F;6:36) and finishing the tournament with a 3-2 record and a fifth-place finish in the 184 lb. weight class.

In the 125 lb. weight class Jordan Krenek lost his first bout by major decision, 12-3, to MU's Boomer Boyd but went on to pin both Lindenwood's Michael Caldwell (6:33) and OBU's Spencer McMurtrey (4:54) in the wrestleback rounds. Krenek then fell by decision, 11-6, to OBU's Garrett Evans, finishing his tournament with a 2-2 record. Zach Vann (133 lb.) fell in his first match of the tournament to Labette's Diamond Wilson (D;9-4) but came back stong in the wrestleback rounds with wins over Central Missouri's Luke McClure (F;1:27) and Labette's Jared Elmore (D;4-1) before losing to Missouri Valley's Dennis Welch by fall (4:49). Vann finished his tournament with a 2-2 record in the 133 lb. weight class.
