WICHITA – The Newman softball team lost a doubleheader, falling 6-1 and 9-0 to Southeastern Oklahoma on Thursday at Newman Softball Field. The Jets were out-hit 20-13 by the Savage Storm in the series.
Game 1: Southeastern Okla. 6, Newman 1
Southeastern Oklahoma (23-12) heated things up in the fifth inning scoring five runs off four hits. A run from Cassy Tice and a Sam Vrska grand slam was all the Savage Storm needed to get the cushioned lead.
In the bottom of the third,
Briana Hallacy hit a solo homerun to give Newman (2-20) its only run of the game.
SEOSU's Vrska added a another run in the fifth with a homerun over left-centerfield wall, giving Southeastern Oklahoma the edge in a 6-1 win.
Game 2: Southeastern Okla. 9, Newman 0 (5 innings)
The Jets went scoreless in the second game while the Savage Storm scored two runs in the first inning, two in the third, and five in the fifth, beating Newman 9-0 in five innings.
Sarah Fipps received the loss with six runs off eight hits in seven innings in the first game, while Stephanie Smolsky lost the second game pitching four innings with nine runs off of 10 hits in the second game.
The Jets move to an overall record of 2-20 with Thursday's losses. Newman will return to action on April 1 for a home series against Heartland Conference foe Texas-Permian Basin.
