Box Score PORTALES, N.M. - 
Chris Vaughn's penalty kick conversion in the 87th minute broke a 1-1 tie, and led the Newman men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Eastern New Mexico Sunday afternoon in Portales, N.M. Newman overcame a 21-12 shot deficit to win the match. 
-Eastern New Mexico (4-2-2) scored the first goal of the game less than five minutes after kick-off to take a 1-0 lead. 
-Newman (3-5) needed less than three minutes to answer when 
Amadou Doumbia netted his fifth goal of the season to tie the match at 1-1. 
-The match remained tied deep into the second period when 
Chris Vaughn was awarded a penalty kick. Vaughn converted the penalty for his third goal of the season to give the Jets the 2-1 margin they went on to win by. 
-ENMU out-shot the Jets 21-12 in the match, including a 10-4 margin in the second half. 
-Making his second start of the season, sophomore keeper 
Robin Allard made four saves in the match while improving to 1-1 on the season. 
-Seven cards were issued in Sunday's contest. Newman received three yellows, while ENMU was saddled with three yellow cards and the lone red card of the match. 
-Saturday's win was Newman's first road win of the season. The Jets are now 1-2 in games played away from Wilkins Field. 
-Eastern New Mexico entered the match unranked, but was receiving votes in the latest NSCAA national poll. 
With the win, the Jets improve to 3-5 overall. They will return home for their next contest, hosting Northeastern State Friday evening in a 7 p.m. contest at Wilkins Field.
