Box Score WICHITA - Satoria Bell and Tasha Cannon each posted double-doubles as the Newman women's basketball team won its final non-conference home game in an 81-45 decision over Ottawa. Ottawa (5-8) made one thing very clear in the opening stages of Monday's game, which counted as an exhibition contest for the NAIA Div. II Braves; they were committed to living, and dying, by the three point shot. Paige Gibson drained a triple on OU's first possession of the contest, and gave the Braves a 3-0 lead just 30 seconds into the game. Newman (11-2) responded with three-straight lay-ups, and a free throw from Ellen Traylor, and took a 7-3 lead at the 16:29 mark, but Shauna McClure's trey on OU's next possession pulled the Braves back to within one, 7-6, at the 16:17 mark. The Jets built a five-point, 11-6 lead over the next minute and change before McClure struck again, draining back-to-back treys, and taking a 12-11 lead with 13:17 to play, but a Satoria Bell lay-up on the next Newman possession sparked an 18-2 run that allowed the Jets to build a 15-point, 29-14 lead after an Anna Sonka triple with 4:34 remaining in the half. After coming up dry on several long-range attempts, Ottawa began to heat up once again in the final minutes of the half, using an 11-5 run to cut Newman's lead to 34-25 with 1:42 to play. KiKi Smith drained a triple with 24 seconds left to pull the Braves with seven, but a Celeste Key lay-up with seven seconds remaining gave the Jets a 37-28 lead at halftime.

It didn't take long for Newman to take complete control of the game as the second half begun. Ottawa missed three-straight shots to open the period, and helped Newman build a 14-3 run that gave the Jets a 20-point, 51-31 advantage with 13:52 to play. Shannon Carlin scored a lay-up for the Braves on the next possession, but that was Ottawa's last basket for better than four minute. Newman took advantage of the Ottawa drought, and built a 64-33 lead with 9:41 remaining. The Jets extended their lead to as many as 36 when a pair of Tasha Cannon free throws gave the Jets a 77-41 advantage. Newman held that advantage until the final buzzer, and walked off the court with an 81-45 win.

Satoria Bell led all scorers in the contest, riding a 10-for-18 shooting performance to a 21-point outing. Bell added a career-high 10 rebounds to post her first double-double of the season. Tasha Cannon led all rebounders in Monday's game, grabbing 15 boards to go along with 18 points while recording her seventh double-double of the season. Celeste Key and Anna Sonka rounded out Newman's double-digit scorers. Key posted 12 points while Sonka added 10 points in the blow-out win.

Paige Gibson led the Braves with 15 points while Shauna McClure added 10. Jackie Hoyt grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

As a team, Newman shot 47.8 percent (33-69) from the field, and an even 50 percent (4-8) from long range. The Jets converted 68.8 percent (11-16) of their free throws and out-rebounded Ottawa 53-28.

With the win, the Jets improve to 11-2 on the season. They will return to action Saturday, hosting Heartland Conference rival Arkansas-Fort Smith in the team's Heartland Conference opener. Tip-time is slated for 2 p.m., or 30 minutes following the conclusion of the Newman-UAFS men's contest which begins at noon.
