WICHITA - Newman's Jets were fast out of the dressing rooms today as they battled it out with McMurry University. The Jets hosted the War Hawks in a 1-0 victory at Wilkins Field on Thursday evening.

The Jets outshot the War Hawks 10-6 in the first half, but only left the field with a 1-0 advantage at half time. Newman created chances producing at least three good opportunities for the Jets. Senior Matt McConnell scored the only goal of the game for the Jets.

The goal came in the 5^th minute as the ball was played into Marcio Souza who flicked the ball onto Nathan Modesto. Modesto took a shot that was saved by goalkeeper Neil O'Sullivan. The save by O'Sullivan was only to go as far as Matt McConnell who could do nothing other than score from 6 yards away from the goal. At the end of the first half the Jets were in the lead, 1-0.

The second half showed some character from the War Hawks as they gradually pulled themselves back into the game. However, the Jets defended well and the War Hawks were unable to create any clear chances. Other than a cross, which a defender for the Jets cleared just wide of the Newman goal.

The Jets will next host Texas-Permian Basin for senior day on Oct. 27. The game will be played at Wilkins Field and will start at 2:30 PM
