ABILENE, Texas - Newman University took on McMurry War Hawks on Thursday as goals came from four different players pushing the Jets record to 2-6-1, and end the team's recent drought.
"We didnt come out as quickly as I would have liked us to, but once we got going that was it," Coach
Cliff Brown commented after today's clash.
The Jet goals came from
Marcio Souza, after less than 10 minutes, and
Nathan Modesto, who scored a penalty in the 19th minute for the Jets. Other goals that followed later in the game were scored by
Jordan Saybounkham and
Sebastien Negro.
"The goals that we scored were a result of what we had been working on the past week. Matt McConnel and
Brandon Carlos really helped us with their hard work to assist the goals, but its impossible for me to pick a man of the match after today's performance," Brown said.
The Jets who were the more dominant side today only had one save to make as goalkeeper
Robin Allard prevented a header.
"Other players that really stood out for us today included
Matheus Daniel who won every header,
Kevin Crafton who is solid every game and
Victor Rojas who came in and performed well. I also thought
Chris Villatoro did a great job in the position he played," said Brown.
As the game progressed more and more fouls were made as the War Hawks of McMurry got a little emotional and continued to battled hard.
"Overall I thought McMurry played very well, they battle hard for each other and play with a lot of emotion. That said, today we played great soccer. Going forward
Marcio Souza and Matt McConnel carved out great opportunites for us. It was also great to see our team get excited each time we scored, that helped too," said enthused Coach Brown.
The Jets next travel to Odessa, Texas where they take on the Texas-Permian Basin on Oct. 6 at 2:30 p.m.
