Baseball Travels To Central Oklahoma on Tuesday

EDMOND, Okla.- The Newman baseball team, fresh off its first series sweep of the season, returns to the diamond on Tuesday, traveling to Edmond, Okla., for a non-conference tilt against Central Oklahoma. First-pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Wendall Simmons Field.

The Jets pushed their record to 5-4 following last weekend's sweep of Oklahoma Panhandle State. Newman has been paced by David Longmore's .281 average. Longmore is tied for the team lead with three RBI's. Jace Moore has been productive in two starts for the Jets, batting .571 with two RBI's.

Newman's pitching staff is anchored by Jacob Furr, and his 1.50 ERA. Furr is 2-0 in three starts, striking out 13 batters. Brandon Droge has bounced back from a rough first start, averaging 10 strikeouts in his last two starts on the bump, and earning back-to-back Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Week honors in the process.

The Bronchos enters Tuesday's game with an overall record of 8-2, and are perfect when playing on their home field. Central Oklahoma's offense is led by senior Kevin Blue, who is batting .548 with four home runs and 19 runs batted in. The Bronchos feature seven hitters batting over .300, and three hitters batting over .500. As a team, Central Oklahoma has hit 14 home runs this season. 

Central Oklahoma features a deep piching staff, that is led by Edgar Lopez.  Lopez owns a 3-0 record, with a 1.84 ERA in 14.2 innings pitched. He has struck out 18 batters, and is holding opposing hitters to a .118 batting average.
