Softball Travels To Pitt State, Hosts Truman State

WICHITA- The Newman softball team travels to Pittsburg State on Tuesday, for a doubleheader against the Gorillas, before hosting Truman State on Wednesday. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Pittsburg State Softball Complex. Wednesday's doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m. at Newman Softball Field.

Newman comes into Tuesday's game with a 1-8 record on the young season. The Jets picked up their first victory of the season against Ouachita Baptist over the weekend. Newman features four players batting over .250. Katie Traffas and Kelsey Jones have been the leaders of the Jets' offense. Traffas is batting .346 with a team-high six RBI's, while Jones is batting .304 and is tied for the team-lead with two home runs.

Pittsburg State
The Gorillas possess a record of 5-12 thus far in the season. Pitt State is led offensively by Tiffany Brown and Amanda DeCastro, who are hitting .383 and .381, respectively. Brown and DeCastro have combined for seven homeruns, 21 RBI's, and 15 extra base hits. The Gorillas' pitching staff features a trio of hurlers in Jessica Barnes, Hilary Erbert, and Brown. The trio has combined for a 3.67 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 114.0 innings of work.

Truman State
The Bulldogs growl into Wednesday's game with a 5-8 overall record. Truman has been paced offensively by Bridget Schade's .457 batting average. Schade leads the team with eight RBI's, and four extra base hits. Cate Simon and Ally McReynolds are tied for the team-lead with two home runs a piece. Seven Bulldogs possess batting averages of above .300. Kelsea Dorsey has led the Truman State pitching staff with a 4-2 record and a 2.01 ERA. Dorsey has struck out a team high 28 batters in 38.1 innings pitched.
