WICHITA- The Newman softball team dropped Game 3 against St. Mary's, 10-1 on Saturday at Newman Softball Field. Five Jets recorded a base hit in the loss.
Following a scoreless first inning, St. Mary's (28-16, 10-2 Heartland) used three hits and two Newman (3-28, 1-11 Heartland) errors to score three runs in the second inning. The Jets threatened in the bottom half of the inning when
Sarah Balderas singled through the left side with two outs. Erin Carney's walk advanced Balderas to second, and a
Kaitlyn Padilla walk loaded the bases, but
Briana Hallacy struck out looking to end the inning.
St. Mary's put another three-spot up in the third inning, using home runs by Taylor Vidrine and Jared Gonzalez to go up 6-0. The Jets tried to rally in the bottom half of the frame. Steph Harshberger led off the inning with a single up the middle, and advanced to second on a passed ball. A
Kelsey Jones double down the left field line plated Harshberger to cut the deficit to 6-1.

Kelsey Jones held the Rattlers in check for two innings, until St. Mary's put the game away with a four-run inning, on its way to the 10-1 victory.
Newman returns to action on April 19th, when William Jewell returns the favor and comes to Wichita for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Newman Softball Field.
