Box Score ABILENE, Texas – The Newman women's basketball team won, 60-57, at McMurry on Thursday (Dec. 19) at Kimbrell Arena. Alexandra Ciabattoni totaled a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds, and she added a career-high four blocks and four steals. The Lady Jets moved to 5-6 and 3-3 in the Heartland Conference.
 
Down one point at 35-34 with 16:20 remaining in the game, the Lady Jets went on an 11-0 run to take a 45-35 advantage with 12:25 left. The 10 point lead was the largest of the game. Ciabattoni scored six points during the run and Cierra Tjaden and Shakira Raynor each added a basket, including a 3 from Raynor.
 
NU held onto the lead for the rest of the game, pulling to the 60-57 win. The War Hawks closed the gap to two points, 56-54 with 1:05 left, but the Lady Jets made 4-of-6 free throws down the stretch to put the game away. Tjaden made two free throws with 1 minute remaining, and she hit 1-of-2 with 15 seconds left to make it 59-54. Chynna Ramelb added the final Lady Jet point for a 60-54 score with 2 seconds remaining. The War Hawks hit a 3-pointer after the Ramelb free throw for the 60-57 score.
 
The Lady Jets started the game with a 12-4 run to go up eight with 12:25 left in the half. McM gained the lead at the 7:12 mark with a one point 18-17 advantage. The rest of the first half was close with the Lady Jets taking a 30-29 lead into the half.
 
Ciabattoni scored 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting. She grabbed 12 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. The four blocks ties a career high, and the four steals is one off her career high. She added two assists. Tjaden hit double figures with 12 points and a game-high five assists. She also had four rebounds and two steals.
 
Keshia Collins led McM with 19 points, and Sierra Maykus tallied 14 points.
 
NU takes on St. Edward's on Saturday (Dec. 21) at 1 p.m. in Austin, Texas.
