Early Runs Not Enough as Lady Jets Drop Two to TWU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DENTON, Texas – The Newman softball team scored first inning runs in both games of a doubleheader, but could not hold on, dropping two games to Texas Woman's University, 10-1 and 7-3. The Lady Jets dropped to 2-4 on the season.

In the first inning of game one, Kelsey Jones' RBI double to left field brought home Kaitlyn Buck for an early 1-0 Lady Jets advantage.

Jones went 2-for-2 with the one RBI to lead the Lady Jets offense. She also started in the circle, going four innings and allowing two earned runs on four hits.

The Lady Jets pulled out to a 3-0 lead in game two. With runners at second and third, Jones doubled down the left field line, bringing home both base runners. Lacey Cowan upped the score to 3-0 with a bunt single, scoring Jones.

Two RBI doubles in the second inning by TWU brought them to within one at 3-2. The Pioneers plated two more runs in the third inning on a home run by Katie Hines to take a 4-3 lead.

TWU added three insurance runs in the sixth inning to take the 7-3 game two win.

Taylor Parsons went six innings for NU, allowing seven runs on 12 hits. She struck out three Pioneer batters.
