Newman Softball vs. Bethany College Gallery
WICHITA – Newman softball dropped a doubleheader to Bethany College on Tuesday (March 19) at the Newman Softball Field. The Lady Jets lost 6-3 and 4-1 and are 3-23 on the season.
Bethany 6, Newman 3
With the score tied 3-3 going into the seventh inning, the Swedes put up three runs in the inning to get the win, 6-3.
The Lady Jets plated one run in the fourth inning to go up 1-0.
Erin Monday singled to right field to bring home
Sarah Balderas.
Bethany put up three runs in the sixth inning, all three runs coming on a home run to center field.
Newman tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. A
Kaitlyn Padilla ground out scored
Taylor Parsons from third.
Kaitlyn Buck singled through the left side to bring in
Briana Hallacy for the 3-3 tie.
Monday finished game one 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Kelsey Jones started in the circle, going 6.0 innings and allowing six hits and three runs.
Molly Hein pitched the final inning and allowed the three runs.
Bethany 4, Newman 1
After Bethany scored two unearned runs in the fourth, the Jets scored their only run of game two in the bottom of the inning.
Katie Traffas singled to centerfield and
Taylor Schawe scored from third base. The Lady Jets left two runners on in the inning as Monday grounded out to first.
The Swedes added two more runs in the fifth inning for the 4-1 final score.
Heins was the game two starter, going 4.0 innings. She allowed two runs, both unearned, on three hits. Jones pitched the final 2.1 innings and allowed no hits and struck out one Swede.
Traffas was 2-for-3 in game two with the one RBI.
The Lady Jets travel to Rockhurst tomorrow (March 20) for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
