Box Score 2 WICHITA – The Lady Jet softball team couldn't overcome second inning struggles in a doubleheader loss to Oklahoma Christian on Friday (March 22) at the Newman Softball Field. The Lady Jets dropped game one, 12-3, and game two, 6-3. Sixteen of the Lady Eagles' 18 runs came in the second innings of the two games. NU fell to 3-27 on the season.
OC 12, NU 3
The Lady Jets took an early 3-0 lead after the first inning. With the bases loaded, Kesley Jones got the RBI when she was hit by a pitch. With the bases still loaded, the second run came on a fielding error by the centerfielder. Audrey Zogelmann scored on the error. The final NU run scored on a bases loaded walk.
OC plated 11 runs in the second inning to take a commanding 11-3 advantage. The Lady Eagles hit two home runs in the inning, including a grand slam to score the final four runs. Oklahoma Christian added one more run in the fifth inning in the 12-3 final.
Zogelmann was 2-for-3 at the plate and scored one run.
OC 6, NU 3
NU scored in the first inning again on a RBI single to left field by
Erin Monday for a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Eagles plated five runs in the second inning to go up 5-1. OC scored runs on a bunt, two singles up the middle, triple to centerfield and on a fielder's choice.
A RBI single up the middle by Zogelmann scored a Lady Jet run in the third inning to make it 5-2. With Zogelmann at third, Monday brought her home with a RBI ground out and a 5-3 score.
OC added one run in the seventh for the 6-3 final score.
Taylor Schawe went 2-for-3 in the nightcap, and Monday had two RBI on a 1-for-3 game.
The Lady Jets and Lady Eagles play again tomorrow (March 23) at 11 p.m.
