Box Score 2 LAREDO, Texas – A walk-off home run downed the Newman Lady Jets, 7-5, in the nightcap of a doubleheader on Friday (March 8) at Texas A&M International in the Heartland Conference opener for both teams. TAMIU won game one, 11-3. The Lady Jets dropped to 2-16 and 0-2 in the Heartland Conference.
TAMIU 7, NU 5 (Game 2)
With the score tied at 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Dustdevils hit a two-run walk-off homerun to win 7-5.
After allowing three runs in the first two innings, the Lady Jets plated five runs in a three-inning span.
Taylor Schawe homered to left field, the first in her Newman career. The two-run shot made it 3-2 Dustdevils.
TAMIU added two runs in the fourth inning for a 5-2 advantage.
In the fourth inning,
Erin Monday hit a solo home run, her second of the season, to center field for a 5-3 score.

Jones started game two in the circle, going 6.2 innings and allowing three earned runs on 13 hits.
Monday went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI, and Schawe totaled two RBI.
TAMIU 11, NU 3 (Game 1)
In game one, the Dustdevils plated 10 runs in the first three innings and pulled away for the 11-3 win. The Lady Jets got runs in the third and fifth innings, all on solo home runs.
Texas A&M International started fast with seven runs in the first inning. TAMIU added three runs in the second and one run in the third inning for a 10-0 score.
Katie Traffas put the Lady Jets on the scoreboard with a solo home run in the third inning.
The Lady Jets hit two more homers in the fifth inning in back-to-back at-bats.
Briana Hallacy knocked one out to left center, her first of the season, and Traffas homered for the second time in the game, putting one over the wall in left field for an 11-3 score.
Traffas went 2-for-2 with two solo home runs.
Lacey Cowan went 2-for-3, and Hallacy was 1-for-2 with the one home run.
Taylor Parsons got the loss, going 0.2 innings and allowing seven runs on six hits.
Molly Hein pitched 3.1 innings and allowed four hits and one earned run.
