Offensive Explosion Not Enough as NU Swept at OPSU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GOODWELL, Okla. – A season-high 10 run inning was not enough as the Newman softball team dropped game one of Friday's (April 12) doubleheader, 14-10, to Oklahoma Panhandle State at the Aggie Softball Field. OPSU won the nightcap, 2-0. The three-game series concludes tomorrow (April 13) with one game at 1 p.m.

OPSU 14, NU 10

The Lady Jets put up 10 runs in the fourth inning to take a 10-5 advantage in the early game. With the bases loaded and one run already scored, Briana Hallacy plated two runs with a single. Kaitlyn Buck hit in the fourth Jet run of the inning on a bases-loaded single, and Erin Monday kept the offense rolling with a two-RBI single. Kelsey Jones then singled home one run, and back-to-back Aggie errors allowed two more Lady Jet runs to score. NU added their 10th run of the inning on a bases-loaded walk for the 10-5 lead.

In a 10-5 deficit, the Aggies scored three runs each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to go up 14-10. Two of the three runs in the fourth inning came on a miscue by the Lady Jets as an error allowed the runs to score. OPSU added one more run on a RBI single. OPSU 2, NU 0

After the high scoring first game, game two featured only two runs as Oklahoma Panhandle State won 2-0.

OPSU scored both of its runs in the fifth inning. With a runner on second, a double gave the Aggies a 1-0 lead. An Aggie single with the bases loaded plated the second run for the 2-0 score.

The Lady Jets outhit the Aggies in the nightcap, 9-7; however, NU couldn't get on the scoreboard. Three Lady Jets totaled two hits. Jones and Makenzie Flaska went 2-for-3, while Zogelmann was 2-for-4.
