Lady Jets Fly Past Aggies, 10-1, in Series Finale

Box Score GOODWELL, Okla. – Newman softball cruised past Oklahoma Panhandle State, 10-1, in the final game of a three-game series at the Aggie Softball Field. The Lady Jets bats came alive with 18 hits and 10 runs, both season highs, in the victory. NU improved to 6-31 and 3-9 in the Heartland Conference.
 
The Lady Jets scored the first run of the game as Taylor Parsons' single in the second inning scored Erin Monday.
 
Newman poured on the scoring in the later innings, scoring runs in the final four innings. In the fourth inning, the Lady Jets plated three runs. Parson hit her second RBI single of the game that brought home Monday once again. A two-RBI single from Makenzie Flaska upped the score to 4-0 with Parsons and Briana Hallacy scoring.
 
One more run was scored in the fifth inning to make it 5-0 NU. After a lead-off double by Katie Traffas, Monday's double brought home Traffas for the 5-0 score.
 
In the sixth inning, two runs were scored. Taylor Schawe doubled to bring in the first run, and a Traffas single scored the second run for a 7-0 Lady Jet advantage.
 
Kelsey Jones capped off the NU scoring in the seventh with a three-run home run. The bomb was her team-leading third homer of the season.
 
The Aggies scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh for the 10-1 final score.
 
Parsons pitched the complete seven innings for NU, allowing the one run on eight hits with four hits coming in the seventh inning.
 
All nine Lady Jets in the lineup totaled at least one hit as NU finished with a season-high 18 hits. Jones went 3-for-5 with three RBI, all on the sixth inning home run. Schawe was also 3-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI, and Monday went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
 
Newman softball is back in action on Tuesday (April 16) on the road at William Jewell. The doubleheader starts at 2 p.m.
