Cardinals Shutdown Lady Jets in Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LIBERTY, Mo. – The Newman softball team couldn't get the bats going as William Jewell took two games from the Lady Jets on Tuesday (April 16). NU dropped to 6-33 and return to action on Thursday (April 18) against Northwestern Oklahoma State at the Newman Softball Field.

In game one, the Cardinals scored the first seven runs to go up 7-0 after four complete innings. The Lady Jets tried to make a run in the sixth inning, scoring two runs, but William Jewell added one in the sixth for the 8-2 victory.
 
The Cardinals got on the scoreboard in the first inning, plating two runs on a double with runners on first and second. William Jewell went up 5-0 in the third on a double and a single. A lead-off triple in the fourth inning helped the Cardinals score two more runs. With runners on second and third, a double brought home the two William Jewell runs.
 
The Lady Jets scored two runs in the sixth inning. A double to centerfield by Kaitlyn Buck scored Lacey Cowan from second base. Buck was brought home on a double by Kelsey Jones for the second Lady Jet run.

In the nightcap, the Lady Jets scored the first run; however, the host Cardinals scored the next eight and pulled away for the 8-1 win.  Molly Hein scored the game's first run as a wild pitch allowed her to score from third base.
 
William Jewell took the lead, 3-1, in the bottom of the inning, plating three runs on a homer. In the fourth, the Cardinals added two runs on a double to centerfield and a single. One WJC run was plated in the fifth and two runs were scored in the sixth for the 8-1 score.
 
The Lady Jets welcome Northwestern Oklahoma State to Wichita on Thursday (April 18) for a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
