Lady Jet Offense Stalls in Doubleheader at ESU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 EMPORIA, Kan. – The Newman softball team struggled to generate much offense as the Lady Jets dropped two games to Emporia State on Monday (April 22). The Hornets won 7-0 and 9-1 (five innings) in the doubleheader.
 
ESU 7, NU 0
 
The Hornets took the lead in the first inning of game one. After reaching on an error and advancing to third, ESU plated one run in the inning on a sac fly.
 
ESU added four runs in the third to go up 5-0. The Hornets were aided by three Lady Jet errors in the inning. A double to left field scored the first run and a bases loaded HBP scored the second run. The final two runs of the inning were scored on two NU errors to make it 5-0.
 
The Hornets scored one run in the fourth and one run in the sixth for the final 7-0 game one score.
 
Newman managed only two hits in the game, and committed four errors, including three in the third inning.
 
ESU 9, NU 1
 
Emporia State scored three runs in the first inning and added one in the second to go up 4-0 after two complete innings of the nightcap.
 
The Lady Jets plated their one run in the third inning. Makenzie Flaska knocked in Briana Hallacy with a RBI single up the middle for a 4-1 score.
 
The host Hornets added one run in the fourth inning and closed out the game with four runs in the fifth to end the game, 9-1.
 
NU's offense stalled in the nightcap as the Lady Jets totaled two hits. Flaska went 1-for-2 with one RBI, and Kaitlyn Buck also went 1-for-2.
 
Newman travels to Pittsburg State on Wednesday (April 24) for a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
