WICHITA – Men's soccer head coach Cliff Brown announced the signing of nine student-athletes to his 2013 class. Forward Luca Paolo Anelli, defender Brenno Ferreira and midfielder/forward Lucas Hanson are the first three signees of the class and Brown has recently added Vitor Okamoto, Adam Sawyer and Bernardo Villas Boas. Brown's recently added three more student athletes: Noel Torres and Alan and Javier Rojas to the class.

Anelli, a 6-2 forward, comes to Newman from Liverpool, England. Last season playing for the Churchtown Jaguars, he scored 17 goals in 21 games. The Jaguars won the Craven Minor Youth Football League and also won the Craven Cup. The team reached the semifinals of the Liverpool County Cup. In 2011-12, Anelli scored 11 goals and added several assists in about 25 games. The Jaguars reached the cup final and came in third in the league. He also played in the Merseyside County College League, scoring six goals in 13 games. He was a school captain for five years, Southport FC captain for a season and vice-captain at Churchtown Jaguars for three seasons.

Ferreira, a defender from Contagem, Brazil, comes to Newman after playing two seasons at Cowley CC. He was selected First Team All-Region KJCCC and First Team All-Conference KJCCC. Ferreira totaled four goals and one assist in two seasons. He is a NSCAA All-American Scholar Athlete and was named to the KJCCC Athletic Academic Team. Ferreira was on the Dean's List for all four semesters at Cowley. Before his time at Cowley, Ferreira played in Brazil for Ipiranga Esporte Club (IEC) and Associacao Esportiva Santa Tereza (AEST). He is the son of William Dorinato Ferreira and Eliana De Oliveira Silva Ferreira, and he is majoring in information technology and management information systems.

Hanson, a forward and midfielder from Wichita, comes to Newman from the University of Kansas and Friends University. While at Friends, Hanson played one season, making four starts in 15 games. He prepped at Kapaun Mt. Carmel where he was a four-year letterwinner. Hanson was a starter for three seasons, two in the midfield and one at forward. As a forward, Hanson earned Second Team All-City and Second Team All-Region. In his four seasons, he scored 10 goals and added 15 assists as KMC went 57-7-1. He was part of two second place teams in the 2006 and 2007 seasons. As a senior, he was a captain for Kapaun Mt. Carmel.
Vitor Okamoto

Okamoto is a 5-7 midfielder from Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil. He spent two seasons playing in the Brazilian League with Gremio in 2011-12 and Corinthians in 2012. This past season, Okamoto played for Sao Jose EC, and he was the team captain for the Altos doe Serra team. He played in Ireland for seven months and was named the Ireland Player of the Year in the Ireland Cup. Before his time in Ireland, Okamoto played soccer with various clubs, including Sao Paulo Futebol Clube, Moreira Sports, and Sao Jose EC.

Sawyer comes to Newman from Luton, England. Last season, Sawyer played for Hatfield Town FC in the Spartan South Midlands League. Prior to last season, Sawyer played soccer for Luton Borough FC where they played in the first division of the Youth League and reached the Bedfordshire County Cup Finals. He was the captain of the Luton Borough team for two seasons. He was selected to play for Protec Football Academy and was awarded Managers Player his first season. Sawyer also played with the Enfield Reserves in the London Capital League.

Bernardo (Beni) Villas Boas comes to Newman from Brazil, but he has previously spent time in Kansas. Villas Boas was a exchange student at Maize High School during the 2010-11 season, and he also played with the WFC Crew. He played high school soccer for one season in Brazil at Colegio Bom Jesus, and Villas Boas was on the Club Atletico Paranaense U12 team in Brazil. He played club at Casarao FC, a club team in his hometown.

Alan Rojas comes to Newman from Dodge City, Kan. where he played two seasons at Dodge City CC. Rojas was a two-year starter in the midfield for a team that qualifed for the regional tournament in 2012. Rojas prepped at Dodge City High School where he was a three-year letterwinner. As a senior, he was part of a team that placed fourth in the 6A State Championships. His junior season, the team finished third in the state in 6A.

Javier Rojas comes to Newman from Dodge City, Kan. where he played one season at Dodge City CC. Before Dodge City, Rojas played his freshman season at Barton County CC. He helped the team to a Jayhawk Conference Championship, Plains District Championship, Region VI Championship and played third in the NJCAA National Championship. Rojas was a four-year varsity player for Dodge City High School. As a senior, he was named All-WAC, All-Region and All-State. He was a three year captain.

Noel Torres, who will also wrestling for the Newman wrestling team, comes to Newman from Emporia High School. Torres was the leading goal scorer for EHS for the last three season, totaling 32 goals and 36 assists. He is a three-time All-State Honorable Mention Selection and was First Team All-Region twice and Second Team All-Region as a sophomore. Torres was also a two-time First Team All-Centennial League selection and was once selected to the Second Team All-Centennial League. As a senior, he was invited to the Kansas All-Star game.
