Box Score WICHITA – A penalty kick goal in the 87th minute lifted visiting Southwestern Christian to a 2-1 win over the Newman men's soccer team on Wednesday (Sept. 25) at Wilkins Field. The Jets fell to 0-5-1 on the season, and the Eagles moved to 5-2.
After a scoreless first 45 minutes of action, the visiting Eagles scored first in the 53rd minute, knocking in a rebounded shot on the left side of the goal.
The Jets knotted the score at 1-1 in the 77th minute as
Luca Anelli's header found the back of the net off a corner kick from
Victor Rojas, who got the assist.
The Eagles' scored the game-winning goal after a NU foul just in the box gave SCU a penalty kick. SCU's penalty kick in the 87th minute gave them the 2-1 win.
The Jets totaled 14 shots in the game compared to 10 from the Eagles, including a 7-3 second half shots advantage for NU. However, SCU had six shots on goal, while NU finished with four.
NU travels to Midwestern State on Friday (Sept. 27) for a 4 p.m. game in Wichita Falls, Texas.
