Softball Splits Series with No. 10 SEOSU, Goes 0-2 on Sunday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DURANT, Okla. – The Newman softball team dropped both games on Saturday (Feb. 16) to No. 10 Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Lady Jets got a 2-2 series split after winning both games on Saturday (Feb. 15). SEOSU won game one, 9-1, and game two, 3-2.
 
SEOSU 9, NU 1
 
In the early game, SEOSU put up six runs in the first three innings to pull away for a 9-1 win. SE scored three runs in the first inning, all coming on a home run. Courtney Riddle hit the three-run homer for the 3-0 SE advantage after one inning. The Salvage Storm added another run in third inning with their second home run. In the third, SEOSU's Riddle added her second home run, this time a two-run homer for a 6-0 lead.
 
The Lady Jets got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning when Lauren Iverson hit a sac fly to center field scoring Hyedi Viehmann.
 
SE added a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to end the game after six innings with a 9-1 score.
 
Alyssa Jarman got the start in the circle, going 2 innings and allowing four hits and three earned runs. Kelsey Jones pitched the final 3.2 innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits with one strikeout.
 
SEOSU 3, NU 2
 
After falling behind 3-0 in the nightcap, NU's rally fell just short in a 3-2 loss to SEOSU. The two runs came in the seventh inning for the Lady Jets. After a leadoff double down the leftfield line for Jones, Viehmann hit an RBI single to score Jones for a 3-1 score. With runners on second and third, Taylor Schawe grounded out, but Sarah Balderas scored for a 3-2 score. Jensen Cromer gave the Lady Jets a chance to tie the game with a single, but Missy Swanson was thrown out at home plate for the final out of the game.
 
The Salvage Storm scored all three of their runs in the third inning. All three runs were unearned. The first run scored on a throwing error. The second run was brought in by an infield single, and the final SE run came on a single to second base. The Salvage Storm led 3-0 after the third inning.
 
Cromer went 6.0 innings in the nightcap for the Lady Jets. She allowed five hits three runs, all unearned, and had three strikeouts.
 
The Lady Jets are back in action tomorrow at the Wichita Mustang Academy. The doubleheader against Sterling College starts at 2 p.m.
