Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – The Newman softball team fell, 4-1, to St. Edward's on Friday (Feb. 28) at Diane Daniels Field. The Lady Jets dropped to 5-5 and 0-1 in the Heartland Conference. The Hilltoppers moved to 12-8 and 1-0 in the Heartland Conference.
 
SEU took an early lead with two runs in the first inning. A single from the Hilltoppers plated one run and a throwing error allowed the second run to score for a 2-0 SEU lead.
 
The Hilltoppers added one run in each the third and fourth innings. SEU plated the one run in the third on a wild pitch, and the one run in the fourth scored on an error for a 4-0 score.
 
Kaitlyn Buck scored the one NU run in the sixth inning. Jensen Cromer singled up the middle and brought home from second base.
 
Cromer started in the circle for NU, going 6.0 innings and allowing the four runs, two earned. She struck out three and gave up four hits.
 
Sarah Debrow picked up the win for SEU. She went the full 7.0 innings, allowing the one run and six hits. She struck out seven Lady Jets.
 
The series continues on Saturday (March 1) with a doubleheader at 12 p.m. at Diane Daniels Field.
