Big Second Inning Not Enough as Softball Falls to TAMIU

Box Score WICHITA – A four-run second inning wasn't enough as the Newman softball team fell, 9-5, to Texas A&M International on Saturday (March 15) at the Newman Softball Field. The Lady Jets dropped to 11-13 and 2-7 in the Heartland Conference.
 
In the second inning, NU scored two runs on an error for a 2-0 lead. Mikayla Medbery brought home two more runs with a double down the line. Alyssa Jarman and Sarah Balderas scored on the play. The two-RBI double increased the NU advantage to 4-0.
 
The Dustdevils tied the score at 4-4 with four runs in the top of the fourth inning. The Lady Jets regained the lead with a RBI from Taylor Schawe. Missy Swanson scored for the 5-4 score.
 
TAMIU added three runs in the fourth inning for a 7-5 advantage. The Dustdevils plated one run in each of the sixth and seventh innings, including a home run to right center.
 
Jensen Cromer got the start in the circle for the second straight game. She went 5.1 innings, allowing 11 hits and eight runs, four earned. Kelsey Jones pitched the final 1.2 innings and gave up three hits and one run.
 
Medbery went 3-for-4 from the plate with the two RBI. She was a home run away from hitting from the circle as she had a single, double and triple.
 
The Lady Jets are back in action on March 28 with a doubleheader against Oklahoma Panhandle State at the Newman Softball Field.
