Box Score 2 WICHITA – Newman softball swept Oklahoma Panhandle State on Friday (March 28) at the Newman Softball Field. The Lady Jets won game one, 8-2, then took the nightcap, 4-2. NU moved to 13-15 on the season and 4-7 in the Heartland Conference.
 
NU 8, OPSU 2
 
Big second and fourth innings pushed NU to an 8-2 win in game one. The Lady Jets plated four run in the second inning and three in the fourth. After falling behind 1-0, NU tied the score on an RBI single from 
Taylor Schawe to left field. 
Kassidy Furr scored. 
Alyssa Jarman put the Lady Jets up with a single up the middle. 
Kelsey Fisher scored on the RBI single. The lead grew to 3-1 with a single by 
Mikayla Medbery, and Schawe scored. The final run of the inning was plated on a fielder's choice, allowing 
Lacey Cowan to score.
 
Three runs in the fourth inning put NU up 7-1. 
Missy Swanson doubled down the leftfield line to score Medbery. 
Jensen Cromer knocked out a two-run homer to left field for the 7-1 score. Swanson scored on the home run.
 
The Lady Jets added their final run in the fifth inning on a single up the middle by Jarman, scoring Cowan
 
NU totaled 15 hits in game one with nine Lady Jets tallying a hit. Medbery went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Four other Lady Jets totaled two hits.
 
Kelsey Jones pitched the first 6.0 innings, allowing one run on six hits with six strikeouts. Jarman went the final 1.0 and allowed one run on two hits.
 
NU 4, OPSU 2
 
NU scored runs in the first three innings to pull away for the 4-2 win in the second game. The Lady Jets scored one run in the first and second innings and two runs in the third inning.
 
Swanson's bunt single put NU up 1-0. Medbery scored on the play. After OPSU tied the score at 1-1, the Lady Jets took a 2-1 advantage as an Aggies' error allowed 
Kassidy Furr to score.
 
The Aggies once again tied the score, but NU plated two runs in the third inning to go ahead 4-2. Furr's two-RBI single up the middle brought in the two runs as Cromer and Swanson scored.
 
Swanson went 2-for-3 with one RBI, and Cromer also went 2-for-3.
 
Cromer got the start in the circle, going the complete 7.0 innings. She struck out four and gave up two runs on nine hits.
 
The three-game series ends tomorrow (March 29) with one game at 12 p.m. at the Newman Softball Field.
