Box Score 2 LUBBOCK, Texas – The Newman softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at Lubbock Christian on Friday (March 7) at Plains Capital Park. LCU won 14-3 and 14-9 in the two games. The Lady Jets dropped to 7-10 and 1-4 in the Heartland Conference. LCU moved to 22-3 and 5-3 in conference.
LCU 14, NU 3
The Lady Chaps won 14-3 in the first game scoring most of their runs in the first and fourth innings. LCU started with four runs in the first inning, with three of the runs scoring on three RBI doubles. The Lady Chaps totaled five hits in the inning.
NU pulled to within one, 4-3, with three runs in the third inning, all coming on home runs.
Mikayla Medbery went yard with a two-run homer to right field.
Kaitlyn Buck scored. In the next at-bat,
Kelsey Jones homered to center field.
In the fourth inning, LCU plated eight runs. The first two runs scored on a home run to center field. A triple with the bases loaded plated three other LCU runs. A double, single and error allowed the other three Lady Chap runs to come home in the inning.
LCU 14, NU 9
NU scored four runs in the top of the first and added three runs in the third, but LCU responded both innings to win 14-9 in game two.
After Jones hit an RBI single up the middle for a 1-0 NU advantage,
Jensen Cromer hit a three-run homer for a 4-0 Lady Jet lead.
Taylor Schawe and Jones scored along with Cromer.
LCU plated three runs in its half of the inning to make it 4-3 after one complete inning. The three Lady Chap runs came on three solo home runs.
The Lady Jets continued to hit the long ball, knocking out two home runs in the third inning, including Cromer's second of the game. Missy Swason hit a lead-off homer to left center to start the third inning, and Cromer hit a two-run homer to left field for a 7-3 NU lead.
The Lady Chaps went up 9-7 with six runs in the third inning, including two more home runs. The first LCU run scored on a solo homer and a single up the middle scored its second run. A double down the line brought home two runs, and a two-run home run plated the final runs of the inning.
Three home runs in the fifth inning plated five runs for LCU to increase its lead to 14-7. After a single, a home run to right center upped LCU's lead to 11-7. Another two-run homer made it 13-7, and the final run of the inning scored on a solo shot to center field.
NU got two runs on the board in the seventh inning.

The Lady Jets hit three home runs in the second game, and LCU totaled eight.
The series concludes tomorrow (March 8) with a doubleheader at 11 a.m.
