Softball Gets Swept at Pittsburg State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Newman softball team couldn't get the offense going as the Lady Jets were swept by Pittsburg State on Tuesday (April 16) at the PSU Softball Complex. NU dropped to 15-24 on the season with the 9-0 and 8-0 loses against PSU.
 
PSU 9, NU 0
 
The Gorillas started game one with four runs in the first inning then added runs in the third and fifth innings for the 9-0 victory after five innings. The first run scored on a single up the middle. Two more runs crossed home plate with a double to left center. The final run of the first inning scored on a sac fly for a 4-0 lead by the home team.
 
Three runs were added in the third inning by PSU. The first two runs scored on a two-run homer, and a single to center field plated the third run of the inning for a 7-0 score.
 
Another PSU home run plated the final two runs. A two-run homer in the fifth made it 9-0.
 
The Lady Jets totaled four hits. Alyssa Jarman went 2-for-2, and Hyedi Viehmann went 2-for-2 for the only NU hits.
 
PSU 8, NU 0
 
In the nightcap, the Gorillas scored seven of their eight runs in the first inning. After a double to right center and a single to short scored one run each, PSU knocked in three more runs with a homer to left field for a 5-0 score. After a single, another Gorilla home run plated two more runs to make it 7-0. An error in the second inning allowed the final fun for the 8-0 final score.
 
NU totaled three hits in the nightcap. Mikayla Medbery went 1-for-2, Kelsey Jones was 1-for-2 and Lacey Cowan also went 1-for-2.
 
The Lady Jets are back in action on Thursday in a Heartland Conference doubleheader at Oklahoma Christian. The twinbill starts at 5 p.m. in Oklahoma City.
