Box Score 2 OKLAHOMA CITY – The Newman softball team dropped two games of a doubleheader to Oklahoma Christian on Thursday (April 17) at Tom Heath Field. The Lady Jets fell, 3-0, in game one and lost, 10-5, in the nightcap. NU went to 15-26 on the season and 6-14 in the Heartland Conference.
OC 3, NU 0
The NU offense struggled to get anything going on game one, totaling only two hits in the 3-0 loss.
Kelsey Jones and
Lacey Cowan each picked up a hit.
OC scored two runs in the third inning to go up 2-0. An infield single scored the first run, and the second run scored on a sac fly to right field. A triple in the fourth inning plated the final run in the 3-0 game.
Jones started in the circle for NU, going 6.0 innings and allowing two earned runs on seven hits.
OC's Shea Coats totaled the two-hitter with two hits, and nine strikeouts in 7.0 innings.
OC 10, NU 5
After allowing five runs in the first three innings of the nightcap, NU plated two runs in the fourth and added runs in the sixth and seven innings, but they couldn't complete the rally, falling 10-5.
The Eagles scored three runs in the first inning. The first OC run came home on a wild pitch then a passed ball brought in the next run. A double steal allowed the OC runner to score from third for a 3-0 Eagle advantage after one inning.
OC started the third inning with a home run to make it 4-0. An RBI single by OC upped the score to 5-0 in the third inning.
The Lady Jets plated two runs in the fourth inning to pull to within three at 5-2. Senior
Kelsey Fisher singled to bring in Jones and then an error by the leftfielder allowed
Missy Swanson to score as well.
An RBI single and home run in the fifth inning by the Eagles put them back up by five, 7-2, in the fifth inning.
NU scored one run in the sixth on a
Kassidy Furr RBI single to left field.
Sarah Balderas scored on the play for a 7-3 score.
A Lady Jet miscue plated the first run in the bottom of the sixth for OC. The Eagles then hit a double down the right field line for two more runs and a 10-3 score.
Swanson scored the final two runs of the game with a two-RBI double.
Mikayla Medbery and
Alyssa Jarman both scored on the double. A ground out and fly out ended the game and the Eagles prevailed, 10-5.
Swanson went 2-for-4 in the late game with two RBI.
