Box Score ODESSA, Texas – The Newman softball team's season ended with a 2-1 loss at Texas-Permian Basin on Saturday (April 26) at the UTPB Softball Field. The Lady Jets dropped to 16-29 and 7-17 in the Heartland Conference.
The Falcons scored both of their runs in the bottom of the first inning. With runners on second and third, UTPB hit a single to right field to plate the two runs for a 2-0 score.
The Lady Jets loaded the bases in the fifth inning, and a sacrifice fly by
Missy Swanson scored one run to make it 2-1.
Hyedi Viehmann tagged up to score for NU.
After throwing a two-hitter in a 1-0 victory yesterday,
Jensen Cromer got the start in the circle, going 4.0 innings and allowing the two runs on five hits. She finished with two strikeouts.
Kelsey Jones pitched the final 2.0 and only allowed three hits with one strikeout.
The Lady Jets totaled five hits, all from different players.
Sarah Balderas,
Kaitlyn Padilla and Viehmann all went 1-for-2.
Lacey Cowan and Jones were 1-for-3.
NU improved by 10 wins from a season ago and more than doubled their Heartland Conference wins. The 16 wins are the most in NCAA Division II history.
