Box Score WICHITA – The Newman softball team fell short against No. 5 St. Mary's, losing 7-4 on Saturday (April 5) at the Newman Softball Field. The Lady Jets dropped to 13-21 and 4-11 in the Heartland Conference. The Rattlers moved to 40-5 and 15-0.
StMU started strong with five runs in the first inning. A three-run home run started the StMU scoring. An RBI single scored two more runs, both unearned, for the 5-0 score after one inning.
Kassidy Furr cut the deficit to two with a two-RBI triple in the second inning. The triple plated
Kelsey Fisher and
Jensen Cromer. Furr also scored on the play as the throw to third base went into the NU dugout, allowing Furr to score.
The Rattlers pulled out to a 7-3 lead with a two-RBI double to right center in the third inning.
Kelsey Jones homered to center field in the sixth inning. Her bomb hit the top corner of the green monster in center field, and went over the wall for the 7-4 score.

Kelsey Fisher went 2-for-3 in the game and scored one run. Furr was 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Cromer got the start in the circle, going 2.1 innings and allowing five earned runs on seven hits. Jones pitched the final 4.2 innings and gave up two hits and totaled six strikeouts.
