Box Score 2 CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Newman softball team picked up a Heartland Conference series win with a doubleheader split today (March 15) at Rogers State. NU won game one last night to win the three-game series. In game one, NU won 3-1 and then lost on a walk off from RSU by the score of 6-5 in game two. The Jets moved to 5-19 and 2-7 in the Heartland Conference.

With the game tied at 1-1, the Jets plated two runs in the seventh inning to win 3-1.
Courtney Sartin hit an RBI single to plate the first run for a 2-1 NU edge. The lead grew to 3-1 with a

Taylor Mannis.
Kaitlyn Buck singled to left field to bring home Sartin in the first inning to give NU an early 1-0 lead. RSU tied the score at 1-1 in the sixth inning on a solo home run to center field.
Mannis, Ingles and Sartin all went 2-for-4. Sartin, Ingles and Buck had one RBI each.
Kelsey Jones started in the circle, going 5.2 innings. She allowed one run on five hits with three strikeouts. Ingles got the win, going the final 1.1 innings. She didn't allow a hit and had three strikeouts.
Rogers State 6, Newman 5
The Hillcats plated three runs in the seventh inning to come back and win 6-5 over the Jets in the nightcap. With the bases loaded, a walk pulled RSU to within one at 5-4. The game-winning walk off single scored two runs for a 6-5 RSU win.
NU jumped on the Hillcats early in the game, scoring four runs in the first inning. Ingles doubled to left to plate two runs with the bases loaded. Sartin and Mannis scored for the 2-0 NU advantage. A sac fly from
Annie Gentry made it 3-0.
Jensen Cromer singled to center to score Ingles for a 4-0 NU lead after one inning.
RSU got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning. A single scored the only run of the inning for the Hillcats. Two more RSU runs scored in the third inning on a home run.
With the lead cut to one at 4-3, Buck put NU back up by two at 5-3 as she scored on a wild pitch in the seventh inning.
Breanna Pingry went 3-for-4 at the plate with one run scored. Cromer was 2-for-4 with one RBI, and Sartin finished 2-for-4.
Cromer, Ingles and Jones all saw time in the circle. Cromer started and went 2.2 innings and then Ingles pitched 4 innings. The trio combined to allow eight hits and six runs with four strikeouts.
The Jets are back in action tomorrow (March 16) against No. 20 Emporia State at 11 a.m. at the Newman Softball Field in Wichita.
