Road-Warrior Jets Head To Fort Hays State Monday

WICHITA, Kan. — With two more doubleheaders remaining before it gets the Heartland Conference regular season underway, the Newman softball team will stay in-state with its season-opening roadtrip, heading to Fort Hays State for a pair of games Monday afternoon at 2 p.m.

SCOUTING NEWMAN

The Jets (5-9) were one tough inning away from leaving Missouri with a doubleheader sweep of Southwest Baptist Saturday afternoon, allowing the Bearcats to take the lead in the sixth after leading 1-0 since the first inning. Newman was able to follow that up with a solid 3-2 win to close out the day, as Taylor Mannis and Mikayla Medbery each smack three hits on the afternoon.

FHSU has won two of its last three and has had the past eight days off.

NOTES

-The Tigers took three out of four last year in a pair of doubleheaders against the Jets, although Newman's win was one of the most exciting of the year, as Breanna Pingry knocked in Sartin to tie it in the bottom of the seventh before Annie Gentry plated Ellise McGowan for the walk-off win. The Tigers return the trip April 5 this year.

-Mannis has recorded a hit in seven of the team's last eight games, including three of her four doubles on the season and her lone home run. The sophomore is batting .500 (11-of-22) over that span.
