WICHITA, Kan. — After picking up a split in a nonconference doubleheader against Rockhurst Wednesday afternoon, the Newman softball team returns to Heartland Conference play this weekend, heading to Oklahoma Christian for a three-game series Friday and Saturday.
SCOUTING NEWMAN
The Jets (7-15, 1-2 Heartland) have won two of their past three games after clipping St. Edward's in the final game of their first conference series last weekend in Austin, Texas and grabbing a 7-2 victory in the nightcap against Rockhurst Wednesday. Newman has been stingy to the other team's offense in the past five games, allowing just four total runs in the past three outings and eight earned runs in the last five.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Eagles (11-11, 6-0 Heartland) had a tough start to the season but have now won seven of their last eight since the beginning of the conference season. Oklahoma Christian swept past Texas-Permian Basin two weeks ago before doing the same against Texas A&M International last weekend, with a doubleheader split against Pittsburg State in between. Two of those wins came by one run, but OC outscored opponents 56-25 over that eight-game stretch.

NOTES
-Despite their good stats, the bulk of the Eagles' roster is young. There's just one senior on OC's roster, while four sophomores and eight freshman make up the bulk of the lineup.
-OC makes sure to take advantage when it can on offense. The Eagles are 19th in the country with a .414 on-base percentage as a team, and are batting .311, which is fourth in the Heartland and 71st in the country. That adds up to 5.82 runs per game, which is 57th in the country.
-After a bit of a lull, Sartin is back in her own in the batter's box. The senior cracked a pair of hits in each game against Rockhurst Wednesday, and is 5-for-10 at the plate over her last three games.
