Jets Wrap Up Long Homestand Against NSU

WICHITA, Kan. — Wrapping up its long homestand before hitting the road this weekend, the Newman softball team hosts Northeastern State in a nonconference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at the Newman Softball Field.

SCOUTING NEWMAN

The Jets (12-23) have been caught up in a number of close games recently, as none of their previous five contests have been decided by more than three runs. Rogers State took two out of three against the Jets last weekend after Newman entered winning three of its past four.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

The RiverHawks (20-15) have gone back and forth all season, but are coming off a 3-1 weekend against MIAA competition. NSU swept Nebraska-Kearney in two games, while splitting two against a Fort Hays State side that took two from Newman earlier this season.

NOTES

-Withers shot up the leaderboards with an impressive series against RSU last weekend, going 5-for-7 across the three games and adding three walks while going a perfect 5-for-5 on stolen bases.

-The RiverHawks are only hitting three points higher than their opponents on the season (.279 vs. .276), but make the most out of those opportunities, slugging a solid .432 as a team with 56 doubles and 25 home runs in 35 games.
