Jets Come Home To Face Rockhurst

WICHITA, Kan. — Now getting into a rhythm with conference series each weekend the rest of the year, the Newman softball team hosts Rockhurst in a nonconference doubleheader at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Newman Softball Field.

SCOUTING NEWMAN

The Jets (6-14) snapped a short losing streak by winning the series finale last weekend against St. Edward's after falling in the first two games of their opening Heartland Conference series of the season. Newman got solid efforts all weekend, but fell to Texas A&M-Commerce in a single game before going up against the Hilltoppers.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

The Hawks (6-10) took last weekend off before getting started with Great Lakes Valley Conference play this coming weekend. They split a doubleheader against Lindenwood last time out on March 2, falling in a tight 2-1 decision before turning on the offense in a 9-2 victory. The win was the third in the past five games for the Hawks.

NOTES

-After 20 games on the road to start the season, the Jets get to make their debut at a refurbished Newman Softball Field, which features new dugouts and a new backstop. The doubleheader Wednesday kicks off a long stretch of staying close to Wichita, as Newman plays 24 of their final 33 games at home.

-The Jets have found it easy to get an early lead recently, scoring in the top of the first in five of their past nine games. Taylor Mannis has scored each of those five runs after reaching base to start the game.
