Jets Close Regular Season At Lubbock Christian

WICHITA, Kan. — With just one weekend of play remaining in the Newman softball team's regular season, a tough three-game Heartland Conference series against Lubbock Christian looms Friday and Saturday.

SCOUTING NEWMAN

The Jets (18-32, 7-14 Heartland) had their final home games of the season — a doubleheader against William Jewell — rained out Wednesday, but are coming off a sweep of Oklahoma Panhandle State in an exciting series of games. That followed a nonconference doubleheader split against a 30-win Pittsburg State team.

LEADERS

                Taylor Mannis, Sophomore-.352 avg., 29 runs, 6 2B, 1 HR, 10 RBI, 20-of-25 SB

Courtney Sartin, Senior-.286 avg., 22 runs, 8 2B, 2 3B, 5 HR, 24 RBI, .461 slg, 5 SB

                Mikayla Medbery, Junior-.326 avg., 26 runs, 7 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 13 RBI, 14-of-14 SB

                Kate Smith, Junior-8-17, 3.16 ERA, 31 app., 161.2 IP, 18 CG, 4 shutouts, 37 BB, 62 SO

                Katie Ingles, Senior-7-9, 3.60 ERA, 22 app., 107.0 IP, 9 CG, 1 shutout, 35 BB, 63 SO

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

The Lady Chaps (39-12, 16-5 Heartland) swept Texas A&M International last weekend in between losses to No. 1 West Texas A&M, and only have five losses—four coming against top-10 teams in the nation—since late February.

LEADERS

                Morgan Colburn, Senior-.400 avg. 58 runs, 14 2B, 22 HR, 62 RBI, .933 slg., .500 OBP

                Molly Davison, Senior-.384 avg., 43 runs, 14 2B, 1 3B, 13 HR, 47 RBI, .760 slg., .462 OBP

                Lindzi Clemmer, Freshman-.351 avg., 48 runs, 10 2B, 5 3B, 4 HR, 36 RBI, 14-of-18 SB

                Katlyn Holmes, Junior-17-4, 2.45 ERA, 26 app., 11 GC, 4 shutouts, 125.2 IP, 38 BB, 61 SO

                Katera Eltsosie, Junior-19-6, 2.96 ERA, 20 CG, 158.2 IP, 47 BB, 136 SO

NOTES

-The Chaps have some pop in their bats, with eight of their nine regulars in the lineup boasting at least four home runs on the season. They have 71 as a team, and slug a hefty .561.

-With this the last weekend of conference action, there's still plenty up in the air. The Jets sweep last weekend has them still alive for a berth in the five-team Heartland Conference tournament. They would need to sweep LCU, as well as have TAMIU get swept by St. Mary's to win the final spot on a tiebreaker with the Dustdevils.

-In addition, although St. Mary's has locked up at least a share of the league regular season title, the Chaps can earn their third straight crown by earning a sweep of Newman and having TAMIU sweep the Rattlers.
