WICHITA, Kan. — With just one weekend of play remaining in the Newman softball team's regular season, a tough three-game Heartland Conference series against Lubbock Christian looms Friday and Saturday.
SCOUTING NEWMAN
The Jets (18-32, 7-14 Heartland) had their final home games of the season — a doubleheader against William Jewell — rained out Wednesday, but are coming off a sweep of Oklahoma Panhandle State in an exciting series of games. That followed a nonconference doubleheader split against a 30-win Pittsburg State team.

NOTES
-The Chaps have some pop in their bats, with eight of their nine regulars in the lineup boasting at least four home runs on the season. They have 71 as a team, and slug a hefty .561.
-With this the last weekend of conference action, there's still plenty up in the air. The Jets sweep last weekend has them still alive for a berth in the five-team Heartland Conference tournament. They would need to sweep LCU, as well as have TAMIU get swept by St. Mary's to win the final spot on a tiebreaker with the Dustdevils.
-In addition, although St. Mary's has locked up at least a share of the league regular season title, the Chaps can earn their third straight crown by earning a sweep of Newman and having TAMIU sweep the Rattlers.
