ATLANTA — Flipping their packed travel schedule to the east coast, the Newman men's and women's bowling teams each earned top-10 finishes at the Brunswick Southern Collegiate Classic.
The Jet women finished third in a 25-team field, totaling 9,723 pins across six team games and 24 bakers. Their 1,004 during Game 4 of the first day was the second-highest single game at the tournament.
Haley Williams led Newman with a 189.67 average during the six individual games, finishing seventh out of 160 bowlers. Kelly Machacek (181.67) was 23rd, and Miranda Hejny (179.83) was 26th.
The Jets men came in 18th in the team standings out of 40 teams in attendance, finishing with a total of 10,185.
Jimbo Thompson paced the Jets, rolling a 278 in Game 5 to finish with a 202.67 average over six individual games, good enough for 35th place in a field of 263.
The Jets head back to the Midwest next weekend, competing in the Leatherneck Classic Saturday and Sunday.
