Jets Welcome OC For Conference Series

WICHITA, Kan. — At home for the second straight weekend, the Newman softball team hosts Oklahoma Christian for a three-game Heartland Conference series, with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday and a noon game Saturday at Newman Softball Field.

SCOUTING NEWMAN

The Jets (8-27, 2-4 Heartland) are coming off a competitive three-game set against Lubbock Christian last weekend. They grabbed a 6-3 win in the second game of the rain-altered series, but fell in the other two games. Newman's scheduled midweek games were wiped out by rain.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES

Oklahoma Christian (21-14, 4-2 Heartland) wasn't able to play nonconference games this week either, so the Eagles are coming off a weekend series at Texas A&M International in which they suffered their first two losses of league play. The three games were decided by a total of five runs.

NOTES

-Through six conference games, the Jets have found some pop in their bats. Rachael Withers is batting .500 (5-for-10) in league play, while Jensen Cromer is batting .421 with a pair of doubles and a triple. In all, six Jets are batting at least .300 in conference action.

-The Eagles have the top pitching staff in the Heartland, posting a 2.22 team ERA, which is also 38th in the country. Madison Hagood plays a big role in that, leading the conference in ERA (1.76) and strikeouts (87).
