WICHITA, Kan. — The Newman University bowling teams got off to a slow start in their first event of the year, with both squads learning about each other. "We are very young this year, with 12 freshman or sophomores out of 16 player roster this week we knew there would be some early season struggles "said Coach Billy Murphy. The Jets had a better on Sunday with the men averaging 215 for 16 baker, the men finished in 16th place in the 40 team field.
The women were in 19th place after day one but came back Sunday with the second highest score in the field averaging 188 for the 16 baker games. The women moved up 7 spots on Sunday and finished in 12th place in 32 team field.
Jake Provenzano led all Newman scoring averaging 226.7 for the 6 qualifying games. Jake finished in 5th place in individual standings and was named to the all-tournament team.
The Jets head to the Dallas/Fort Worth area Saturday and Sunday October 13-14 for their second event of the year.
