WICHITA, Kan. — Kicking off a two-week stretch without leaving home, the Newman softball team hosts Lubbock Christian and St. Edward's for Heartland Conference doubleheaders this weekend at Newman Softball Field.
SCOUTING NEWMAN
The Jets (2-15, 0-4 Heartland) played six games on the road over the past week, suffering losses to Texas A&M International and St. Mary's over the weekend to start Heartland play, and falling in a doubleheader to Washburn Tuesday. Newman was competitive in the last five, staying within four runs.

SCOUTING THE CHAPARRALS (Friday, 1 p.m.)
LCU (10-4, 3-1 Heartland) has won five of its past six, capping that run with a 5-2 victory over No. 10 West Texas A&M Wednesday evening in which the Lady Chaps scored five times in the first inning and never looked back. Their lone loss during that stretch was a 9-0 defeat at the hands of Oklahoma Christian Sunday.

The Hilltoppers were swept in doubleheaders by Lubbock Christian and Rogers State last weekend, and suffered a pair of losses at Texas A&M-Kingsville Tuesday.

-The Jets and Hilltoppers are two of the toughest teams to strike out in the Heartland in the early part of the season. Newman batters have just 53 strikeouts on the year, while St. Edward's, which has played four fewer games, has been punched out just 39 times.
-While LCU's team batting average is just .278, which is fifth in the league, the Chaps make up for it with pop, with a .491 slugging percentage that ranks second.
