JOPLIN, Mo. - Cross country went back to Missouri on Saturday to compete in the NCAA DII Regional Championships. Both the men and women saw a lot of personal success, with multiple Newman records being broken.
The men finished in 25th, but were able to set a school record for average time of 32:32 and six of the seven runners set personal bests on the day.
Asher Brown led the team with a 31:53 time, the second fastest in school history. Ezekiel Kemboi was one of the team members that set a personal best, ending his career with the Jets by setting a time of 33:57.
"The men overall had a very good day. Finished 25th on probably the toughest regional in the country" Said Head Coach Josh Schepis on the men's performance.
The women also broke a record of their own, with Patricia Limo toppling the school record set by Jets Hall of Fame inductee Rubi Torres. Limo ran a time of 21:48, breaking the record by over 15 seconds.
The women finished 28th place, with Nayelly Rosales and Caroline Williams each setting personal bests during the day. The women's team overall had a 13 second improvement on the course from their last showing at the MIAA Conference Championships.
On the Championships and the season as a whole, Coach Schepis said, "A great way to end a good year. We've got a lot to build on and definitely have our team heading in the right direction, so I'm very excited about the future."
