WICHITA - The Newman women's soccer team notched its second win of the season in a 2-0 win over Sterling College Wednesday evening at Wilkins Field.
Lauren Wilson and
Amanda Knabe each netted goals in the shutout win.
Newman had no problem controlling the ball against the undermanned Warriors, who spent much of the first half defending their own goal. Wilson put the Jets on the board in the first half when she sent
Kayde Kluge's pass to the back of the net and past Sterling keeper Holly Chrisope to give the Jets a 1-0 lead on her second goal of the season. NU continued to force the issue for the remainder of the half, amassing 17 shots in the first 45 minutes of the half and holding Sterling shotless.
The Jets got right back to it after halftime.
Amanda Knabe's third goal of the season at the 70:47 mark was one of 15 Newman shots in the half, and one of 32 by the Jets in the game. Sterling's Chrisope was peppered for 10 shots on goal, and recorded eight saves, only one of Sterling's five total shots found NU keeper
Christina Farid for a save.
With the win, the Jets improve to 2-3-2 on the season. They will be back in action Sept. 25 when they travel to San Antonio, Texas to open Heartland Conference play against Incarnate Word in a 6 p.m. match.
