Newman University will welcome its new mascot with a special introduction at Monday night's women's soccer game vs. Ottawa. The event will mark the celebration of a year-long process that involved hours of research, brainstorm sessions and meetings. 

"This is a great day for Newman University," spirit squad coach Zach Schuman said. "With our new mascot, we will finally be able to have a tangible figure to boost and promote school spirit. The interest and support we have received from the community has been outstanding!

Newman welcomes the upstart Ottawa Braves to Wilkins Field Monday evening for a 7 p.m. contest. The Braves are 5-1-2 thi season after picking up a 2-1 win over Rogers State Friday evening in Emporia.. 

The Jets have been led this season by Sade Humphrey, a 5-4 junior from Salina, Kan., by way of Butler Community College. Humphrey has scored four of Newman's six goals this season, and was last week's Heartland Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
