Set 1: UTPB 25, Newman 23: Newman (3-14, 0-5 Heartland) fell behind 3-0 out of the gate, but rallied to tie the match at 4-4 after a
Karol Marins kill. Texas-Permian Basin (11-10, 3-3 Heartland) answered with four-straight points to take an 8-4 lead after a Melissa Lusk service ace, and forced Newman head coach Tessa Jones to burn her first time-out of the match. The Jets responded to Jones' time-out, and battled back to tie the set at 12-12 after an
Alysia Heideman kill. Back-to-back UTPB attack errors gave the Jets a 15-12 lead, but the Falcons scored the next four points to take a 16-15 lead, one they would not give up. The Jets tied the set briefly at 22-22, but the Falcons scored the last three points of the match for the 25-23 win.

That run proved to be too much for the Jets to overcome. When the dust cleared, UTPB had strung together a 18-7 run, and regained the momentum of the match with a 25-14 third-set win.

Heideman kill, but the Falcons tied the match at 15-15 two points later. Newman forced its final tie of the match at 21-21 on a
