The Newman men's soccer team travels to Metro State and Colorado-Colorado Springs this weekend for road contests. The Jets take on Metro State on Friday (Sept. 11) at 5:30 p.m. in Denver and then play at Colorado-Colorado Springs on Sunday (Sept. 13) in Colorado Springs, Colo. Live stats are available for both contests and video is available for the game at UC-Colorado Springs.
NU is currently 1-1 on the season. They started with a 3-2 win at William Jewell on Sept. 3 and then lost to Colorado State-Pueblo in the home opener, 2-0.
Dominic Nwagwu scored two goals in the win over the Cardinals with
Taylor Henry getting the other tally.
Gefte Blanc and
Bernardo Vilas Boas each have assists. Nwagwu scored both of his goals in the second half, including the game winner.
Calum Dillon has started both games in goal. He has a 2.00 goals against average with seven saves. He is 1-1 on the season.
Metro State is also 1-1 on the season. They started with a 5-2 loss to Dixie State and then won, 4-1, over Montana State-Billings during the opening weekend in St. George, Utah. Dustin Berg is the leading goal scorer with two on the season. He adds an assist. Danny Arrubla, Jack Mayfield, Tyler Trujillo and Will Moats also have goals. Both Jorge Vega and Hayden Rus have started in goal. Hayden has a 1.00 goals against average with two saves and a 1-0 record.
Colorado-Colorado Springs is currently 0-1 on the season. They opened the 2015 campaign with a 3-2 loss to Eastern New Mexico in Taos, N.M. on Sept. 3. They play Fort Hays State tonight (Sept. 11) at 8:30 p.m. in Colorado Springs, Colo. before the Sunday (Sept. 13) game against the Jets. Sebastian Hertzberg and JR Calhoun have each scored a goal for the Mountain Lions. Jake McAllister has one assist. David Meyer started in goal and allowed three goals with three saves for a 3.00 goals against average.
After this weekend's games, the Jets return to Wichita to take on rival Friends University on Friday (Sept. 18) at 7:30 p.m. in Wichita, Kan.
